A great resume for a Machine Learning Researcher reads like that of Giacomo: a BSc in Computer Engineering from the University of Catania; a MSc in Computer Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin; and a MSc in Data Science & Engineering from EURECOM/Télécom ParisTech. Giacomo began is career in R&D at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research before moving on to the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, working with a team of experimental biologists to identify key cellular features and epigenetic markers associated with type 2 diabetes. There he implemented convolutional neural networks and connected molecular phenotypes to polygenic scores using correlation metrics and significance testing. In 2021, Giacomo moved to Vienna to work as an AI/ML Engineer for ImageBiopsy Lab, an AI in Radiology startup working in the musculoskeletal space. Initially he harmonized the company’s data lake before being quickly promoted to Senior AI/ML Engineer, hwere he trained & coordinated annotation teams, designed and implemented IBL’s core suite of AI spine products, and interacted with various stakeholders in both clinical and commercial environments. As his name might suggest, Giacomo is originally from Italy (and loves pasta).
