contextflow Secures Grant to Unify Fragmented Medical Information and Scale AI in Cancer Treatment

Vienna, October 27, 2026 – Together with its longstanding partners Vienna Radiology Center and the Medical University of Vienna, contextflow – A 4DMedical Company is pleased to announce it has secured a grant from the Vienna Business Agency (WAW) titled “Multimodal AI enhanced Predictive Diagnostics for Targeted Treatment of Cancer” (MAID-C). The aim of the 3-year long project is to overcome the severe fragmentation of medical information systems and establish a new standard for AI integration in complex clinical environments to enable better cancer treatments.

Unifying a Fragmented IT Landscape

University hospitals deal with vast amounts of siloed medical data, making it difficult to have a clear overview of all available information when a patient is in cancer treatment – lab results, imaging, clinical information, patient history, histo-pathology results, etc.

“MAID-C is about breaking down this barrier. Its primary objective is to build a unified, highly scalable data and IT framework that allows advanced AI diagnostics to integrate seamlessly into the fragmented infrastructure of major university hospitals. By doing so, critical diagnostic insights will be delivered directly to the radiologist’s native viewing systems without friction or delay,” explains contextflow Chief Scientist & Co-Founder Prof. Georg Langs. The concept and solution will be deployed and tested at the Vienna Radiology Center and Medical University of Vienna.

Transforming Care for Clinicians and Patients

If successful, the project would represent a massive leap forward for the entire healthcare ecosystem:

  • – Combating Burnout for Clinicians: By streamlining the flow of medical information and automating quantitative analysis, clinicians could potentially save significant reading time while improving diagnostic accuracy.
  • – Better Care for Patients: A seamless AI workflow would mean faster, more precise early detection of life-threatening conditions—such as lung cancer, interstitial lung diseases (ILD), and COPD—with the ultimate goal of earlier interventions, fewer unnecessary biopsies, and better patient outcomes.
  • – New Standards for Clinical Practice: The project would shift AI from being an isolated, standalone research tool into a ubiquitous, everyday standard of care that operates effortlessly in the background.

Why contextflow?

contextflow was uniquely selected as the grant partner because of its experience with research and development projects as well as its comprehensive AI platform that analyzes multiple disease patterns simultaneously. contextflow’s technology is CE Marked under the new MDR and used in clinical routine and research projects across 15 countries in Europe.

Fostering Innovation and Trust Through Long-Standing Partnerships

This initiative relies heavily on close cooperation with trusted, long-standing clinical partners. This collaborative model is critical; it bridges the gap between AI creators and end-users. By developing and refining these tools in tandem with the radiologists who use them every day, contextflow ensures the technology is practical, intuitive, and highly trusted. This continuous feedback loop is the true engine of sustainable medical innovation.

According to Langs, “The MAID-C grant is not just a standalone milestone; it is the foundation for a new era of medical IT innovation. By successfully harmonizing medical information within a complex university hospital like MUW, contextflow and its partners are creating a scalable framework to positively impact patient outcomes in Austria and beyond.”

About contextflow – A 4DMedical Company

contextflow is a spin-off of the Medical University of Vienna (MUW) and European research project KHRESMOI, supported by the Technical University of Vienna (TU). Founded by a team of AI and engineering experts in July 2016, the company has a strong interest in bringing state-of-the-art machine learning techniques for medical imaging to the healthcare market. Its computer-aided detection software supports radiologists in the evaluation of lung cancer, ILD and COPD; this technology is CE Marked and available for clinical use within Europe under the new MDR. Notably, contextflow is the first company to have received a reimbursement code for the use of AI in radiology in Europe. In August 2026, contextflow was acquired by 4DMedical (ASX: 4DX) the Australian-based global market leader in developing software for quantitative cardiopulmonary imaging insights.
