Thomas Schlegl
Senior Machine Learning Engineer

The most rewarding part of my job is of course the most challenging: “Make the ideas work!”

Machine learning, data science and radiology…Thomas’ expertise lies at the intersection of all three. As Senior Machine Learning Engineer, he writes the beautiful code that powers our AI-based tools. His years of working as a radiographer at Vienna General Hospital (AKH) and KFJ Hospital make him uniquely suited to understanding the needs of radiologists as they move through their daily clinical workflow. Thomas earned both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Medical Informatics from TU Wien before completing his PhD in Medical Informatics, Biostatistics & Complex Systems from the Medical University of Vienna, where he was also a researcher at the Computational Imaging Research Lab. He lectures occasionally at the University of Applied Sciences in Wiener Neustadt and Fachhochschule St. Pölten on medical image processing and applied mathematics.

People would be surprised to learn…that I play brass band music.

If I wasn’t working as a Machine Learning Engineer, I would be…a wine grower in Burgenland.

Most rewarding part of my job: devleoping machine learning algorithms that work better than expected
