Michael Pieler
Machine Learning Engineer

AI tools will increasingly support radiology departments to derive knowledge from their data, which will be the basis for new and better treatments while reducing the burden on the healthcare system.

What do you get when you put life science and data science together? Michael Pieler, our Machine Learning Engineer. A native Austrian, Michael studied Food Science and Biotechnology at BOKU in Vienna, putting those skills to good use at companies like Robert Bosch, the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems and Boehringer Ingelheim. His achievements over the years include automation of data processing workflows for production data, advanced visualization of chromatography data, development of new virus purification processes and analytical methods and increasing team and managerial cohesiveness. An intrinsically-motivated learner, Michael used his hours after work to teach himself practical deep learning coding methods, from which we are now lucky to benefit!

People would be surprised to learn…that I have a black cat.

If I wasn’t working as a Machine Learning Engineer, I would be…reading a lot and coding for fun!

Most rewarding part of my job: Figuring stuff out and seeing solutions that are helpful to others
