Rui Zhang
Chief Medical Officer / Radiologist

I shape products to actually meet radiologists’ needs. I should know; after all, I am one.

Originally from Meizhou in China’s Guangdong province, Rui loved science and technology and originally wanted to study computer science. After a technical glitch deleted student career preferences the year she applied for university, she was forced to re-state her desired career and spontaneously chose radiology. She received her Bachelor of Medicine and Diagnostic Medical Imaging from Guangdong Medical University and went on to work as a radiologist at Meizhou People’s Hospital, honing her diagnostic report writing skills for Xray, CT (her specialty) and MRI while assisting radiotherapists in planning target areas. Rui subsequently moved to Europe, earning her Masters in Human Nutrition from Ghent University. Thereafter she moved to Leipzig to complete her PhD in neuroscience at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences. During her 5 years there she analyzed thousands of brain MRIs using regression models. Her work led her to secure new lab collaborations and present at various conferences. This networking led her to contextflow, where she serves as Chief Medical Officer, conducting research and overseeing the annotations process. Her feedback is instrumental in helping to build products radiologists actually want to use.

People would be surprised to learn…you don’t have to be surprised! I’m an open book!

If I wasn’t working as a Chief Medical Officer, I would be…the same thing. I’m very happy with what I’m doing now.

Most rewarding part of my job: Supportive colleagues
